Jarrah is a well known, classic brown red timber native to the south west of Western Australia. The common name "jarrah" is also the aboriginal word for both the tree and timber which suitably reflects the tones of the southwest WA landscape from where it originates. It is an extremely popular timber with Bosch Timber Floors, as many West Australians identify with this as the local timber of choice. Jarrah floorboards in Perth and older WA homes, have been widely used before concrete pads became the standard building style.
Color/Appearance: Heartwood colour ranges from a light red or brown to a darker brick red; tends to darken with exposure to light. Thin sapwood is a pale yellow to pink.
?Grain/Texture: Grain tends to be interlocked or wavy with a medium to coarse texture. Some boards can contain gum pockets or streaks as a naturally-occurring defect. Jarrah can also exhibit a curly figure.
Rot Resistance: Jarrah flooring in Perth and worldwide is rated as very durable regarding decay resistance, and it is also quite resistant to insect attack.
Because of its great durability, Jarrah is also especially useful timber for exterior projects in Australia, specifically Jarrah as decking in Perth. Jarrah burl is also prized among woodturners, with its tight knots, swirling grain, and rich colors giving an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
