Coastal Blackbutt flooring in Perth is the most popular of all timber floors sold by Bosch Timber Floors. It is hard wearing and light in colour which are two of the main characteristics desired by homeowners. The light cream to brown colours tend to provide a neutral impact allowing this timber to be matched with just about any colour scheme in any home. Blackbutt also has a janka rating of 9.1 making it harder than most other light coloured timbers.
Blackbutt, or Eucalyptus Pilularis if we are referring to its botanical name, ranges from golden yellow to pale brown, and occasionally a slight pinkish colour may be present. Blackbutt can be stained, painted or polished and it provides good fire resistance. It is one of seven hardwood timber species that was found to be suitable by the Building Commission in Victoria for home construction in bushfire areas, as long as it has a thickness greater than 18mm.
The name Blackbutt began because of the tree's appearance after bushfires, when the buttress (aka butt) is significantly darkened. It is also known as coastal blackbutt to distinguish it from the tableland variety, the New England Blackbutt.
It is a strong, durable hardwood, which makes Blackbutt suitable for a range of structural, exterior and interior uses including framework, decking, flooring and poles.
