Bosch Timber Floors Award Winners

Bosch Timber Floors follow an ethos that in order to remain viable in a competitive market, it is important that you always;

- Endeavour to complete your best work at all times
- Work with others who feel the same way
- Always look for opportunities to improve efficiency of the process or quality of the products

With these key drivers, the business has understood the best way to test itself against these parameters is to compare it's results with other industry leaders.

In 2014 Bosch Timber Floors decided to enter the ATFA (Australasian Timber Flooring Association) floor of the year awards. Each year the ATFA calls for nominations of exceptional timber floors from all over Australia and New Zealand with members voting on finalists to decide on a winner across different categories. The association also provides "awards for excellence" in categories which recognise outstanding performance by businesses and individuals.

Bosch Timber Floors had produced a showcase floor in its office foyer that was a technically outstanding example of what can be done with timber floors. Rick Pagnacco of Wicked Wood is a long-term collaborator with the business installing many jobs for customers who purchase timber from Bosch Timber Floors. Rick had decided he wanted to create something out of the ordinary and spoke to General Manager Richard Catlin with his thoughts. Richard agreed this was a great idea and Rick then set to work on creating a floor that ticked all the boxes. Mark Taylor from Niche Timber Flooring then sanded and coated the floor using the high quality Bona HD waterborne coating system to bring the floor to life. The final result was so pleasing that Richard had no hesitation in entering the floor into the national awards in the commercial floor of the year category.The floor won its category and was a great thrill for everyone involved.

The business then made it a mission to look for opportunities to create not only great floors for everyday customers, but to seek opportunities to work on more unique timber floor projects that could be worthy of awards.

In 2015 and 2016, the business had entries but nothing that was special enough to win an award. In 2017 however, Bosch Timber Floors had a double success.

for the 2017 awards, the business nominated in a new category of "solid timber staircase" and were thrilled to be confirmed as the first winner of that category. The solid staircase was part of a renovation for a customer who wanted to complement their existing jarrah balustrade in similar timber tones without making the space too dark.

A Sydney Blue Gum timber was the perfect fit which Daniel Schoenfeld of Old School Timber Floors installed with great precision and attention to detail. The two curves in the stair case made it technically more challenging but with patience and skill Daniel achieved a stunning result. Jimmy O'Brien from O'Brien Flooring then sanded and coated the staircase to a finish fit for a show home! The finished staircase was a credit everyone involved. On winning the award, Richard Catlin commented, "it is great when opportunities arise to work on challenging projects like this staircase because it brings out the best in the craftsmen involved and the final result gives us great satisfaction. Daniel and Jimmy were fantastic on this project."

In a further recognition of the business's dedication to great service and quality products, Bosch Timber Floors was also announced as "2017 Distributor of the Year". Richard Catlin was particularly pleased to accept this award and was full of praise for his staff. "Bosch Timber Floors will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2018, and I think it is fair to say the team of staff we have now is as good as the business has ever had. The current group has been together for three years without change and we continually work together to try and improve our business from day to day operations through to new introducing proven product innovations." He added "I am very proud to be a part of this group, and yet I am sure there is still opportunity for us to improve further."

Bosch Timber Floors has been operating in Perth since 1988. Alf Bosch founded the business with his wife Erika and quickly grew a strong reputation for quality timber flooring and associated installation products. In 2008 Richard Catlin purchased the business with a view to building on the strong foundations that Alf and his family had established.

With 3 awards now to their name, Bosch Timber Floors remain focused on ongoing improvement and the never-ending journey to create functional and stunning timber floors.
